“The wait for replacement surgery is unbelievable when you are in such extreme pain,” says Maxine, passionate fund-raiser for the Nova Scotia Western Region’s Hip Hip Hooray! campaign. Maxine’s first surgery was a partial knee replacement in 1989, and a number following: her right hip was replaced in 1994, her left knee in 1996 and a total replacement on her right knee in 2000, most performed by Dr. Eric Howatt at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, NS. Maxine is now pain free and celebrates her mobility through Hip Hip Hooray! – and dancing the jive with her husband!
